This class is focusing on giving us input on how to be a good person and teacher. The insights and moral values in these movie can only be understood by teachers who are dealings with all kid of students. For example , those teachers in the movie have unique approach and care about their students .

Some of these movies were associated with the lives of the real life teachers, their stories of dedication, determination, and inspiration, can help all teachers rejuvenate and remember the impact they can have on the lives of their students.

Mr. Vahid's suprise!!

It's been a long time since we have seen Mr . Vahid. He came in our class explaining on how to produce an effective argumentative writing. According to him, it is an action of “making a claim or taking a position”, “providing proof in its support”, and “accounting for the probable objection”. Mr. Vahid also taught and show  us how to write a good argumentative writing by including a few elements, such as in  data, bridge, rebuttal and qualifiers. He also provides a few examples for us to look at.

My favorite part of the day was eating Dr. Jaya's KFC treats. It was delicious (because it is free..) .

Triple trouble's fable ..

"A fable is a succinct story, in prose or verse, that features animals,
mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of nature which
are anthropomorphized (given human qualities), and that illustrates a moral

Fable? Why must we write and draw our own fable? I must admit, it terrifies me a a little bit because I am no interest in artsy fartsy. Thank God that I've got two  others group members who are talented in drawing (pheww). First of all , we must choose what features we wanted to draw. Is it about animal, people, horror creatures and etc.  We talk and we eat  while discussing because at that time we were at the KFC . While we are talking, the idea suddenly emerges (out of no where, really!!). The idea of a boy who is lost in the jungle . He were forced to eat a pig (a really cute pig) because there are no other food around.  In the end he died. You want to know what happened to him? Just read our fable.. (the fable is in Dr. Jaya's collection). So, the morale story of our fable is "Do not make easy things any harder".

Research paper?

This is one of the hardest job of all time for me (I'm a little over dramatic here..)  . First of all , let me tell you that I love to read , but to come out with an  interesting idea for a research paper totally drain my brains out. Maybe , t was my fault because I cannot think seriously and always having difficulties to come out with "original and new" idea.  I have submitted a few topics, and it all get rejected ( It's a shock for you all, but it's failure for me...). Anyhow , I will try my best to come out for new ideas and finished my research paper. Good luck to me!!

Position Paper

What is position paper?

It is like a debate, a position paper presents one side of an arguable opinion about an issue. The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and defensible. Ideas that you are considering need to be carefully examined in choosing a topic, developing your argument, and organizing your paper. It is very important to ensure that you are addressing all sides of the issue and presenting it in a manner that is easy for your audience to understand.

In the class, we've been discussing the issue of arranged marriage. Most of us agree on  love marriage (I am one of them). This topics makes us to think about the advantages and disadvantages of arranged marriage. Is it still practical in this era ? This are the question we must answer and as practice to argue in order to write our own position paper.

Knock-you-down!!

 On the tutorial class, we've been asked to bring our own laptop for a "Drowgames Knock-out competition" . Well, guess what guys? I've won .. woohooo!!

I've won!!! Second- place.. and I 've got my prize .. thank you all.

But I couldn't attend the prize giving ceremony due to other commitment. But if I were there my acceptance speech would be like this:

" OMG , y'all!!(exited) First of all I wanna thanks all my friends who were kindly enough to lose to me because they are all very kind -hearted person. Actually, I've managed to convinced them to feel sympathy to me as I never won anything before.. and for the first prize winner.. I won't mentioned name here.. I hope you are happy because I let you to win... hahaha .. thank you again..."

What is a research?

Research can be defined as the search for knowledge or as any systematic investigation to establish facts.

What is Researcher?

A researcher is somebody who performs  research , the search for knowledge or in general any systematic investigation to establish facts. Researchers can work in academic, industrial, government, or private institutions.

 

We have been instructed by our lecturer to attends a researcher exhibition  at  PKKSSAAS, UPM. It was a new experience for me because I never  attend an exhibition like that before. There a lot of extraordinaire things that I ever heard before  and it is really fascinating seeing them with their own creation and founding. They seem like a total brainiac people as they are manage to come out with things like that. The last booth I visited is Dr. Jaya's booth. I must say that I'm totally impressed with their explanation on the things they created, I don't remember what its called , but it looks likesome kind of an English Language system for students and teacher.. Congrats for those who are working on such magnificent tool. Salute!!!

Can I have an I-pod , please...........

I want one!!

We have been assigned to play Drowgames on the internet. The first prize is an I-pod.. But, I'm such a lazy -bum.. I like the games but I've no interest in playing it day and night. I rather watch movie or listening to songs.. Well , it's true what other  people say, No pain , No gain. Here it means " if you don't play , you will get nothing.. zero.. nada " . I've learned the hard ways..

The games is not too hard to play. It is suitable to be played by young learners. It is good for them to practice vocabularies, grammar and sentence structure Overall. I;m sure the people who played this game will enjoyed it. 

Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire

After watching this movie, I feel as if I've witnessed something important, an eye-opening portrait of TRUE life in the suburbs of Harlem that question the meaning of happiness I've gained from the easy, comfortable life I've led so far.

Clarisse 'Precious' Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) is a sixteen-year old African-American girl, extremely overweight, illiterate and expecting her second child from her own father, who raped her. She lives with her mother (Mo'Nique), a smoking lazy bum. She's angry at Precious for 'stealing her man' and for having given him more children. Precious frequently imagines herself as a glamorous celebrity, beautiful and adored by people, and she retreats into her daydreams every time something bad happens to her...which is happening every day. When she meets her new teacher, Ms. Blu Rain (Paula Patton), the teenager will discover a new love she never had before.

Ms. Rain is the kind of teacher we’ve seen in Dangerous Minds and Lean On Me . For me it’s amazing to see a teacher who go beyond the curriculum and the school administration board to help their students realize their potential. The teacher in this movie is a sweetheart but she can get strict when her class needs to be put back in order. She has to be since her small class is made up of street hardened ladies that have learned early on the rule of street that is to fight for your honor. 

Precious: Nobody loves me...huhuhu

There are a lot of lessons and insights to gain from the movie but for me it was that reminder that even in the hardest of situations there is a hope , there is a solution, there is a way out of the trouble. If you look hard enough you can find love and if you look even harder you can find a way to love your life and yourself.

** I am still haunted from the scene where Precious'  mother threw TV on her.. thank God she avoided it..

My name is Forrester .... William Forrester

"My name is Bond .. James Bond". This is the famous line said by the legendary actor, Sean Connery. In this movie , he is not a kick- a** spy but he played a recluse writer.

William Forester (Sean Connery) once wrote a Pulitzer Prize winning book, but now is a recluse, hiding from his fame, who never leaves his book-filled apartment in the Bronx, but spends his time reading and bird watching. Jamal Wallace is one of these teenagers. He hides his love of reading, and his brilliant writing skills, and chooses instead to gain the acceptance of his peers through his skill at basketball. A prep school has offered Jamal a scholarship because of his high test scores, and their need to win a basketball championship. The two characters meet, and Forester becomes a sort of teacher/mentor, but both learn many things from each other.

Included in the movie is a very brief first course in writing. Though the movie doesn't focus too much on it, the way it presents the process of writing (and of the criticism of writing) is refreshingly realistic.

This movie evoked a curiosity of the mind of great writers.It makes the  audience think.. What truly makes one great? How can we really expect to interpret what an author's work meant to them?

Overall, I kinda like this movie because of the great actors in it.

This movie is a  tale of a young girl winning against all odds and become one of the year's biggest gems - a heartfelt and moving film about the champion in us all.

While Akeelah is a very bright girl, she's hardly a star student and seems afraid of acting like a bookworm around her friends and classmates. However, Akeelah's teacher sees genuine potential in her student and encourages her to enter the school's spelling bee, convinced Akeelah has the brains and the talent to win. Akeelah applies herself and emerges victorious in the local competition, but discovers the going gets tougher when she goes to a statewide bee.

Dr Larabee: Who's head is this?

My favourite character in this movie is Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne) a strict English teacher who mentored Akeelah through the regional. Who is Dr . Larabee?

Dr. Larabee is a man of self-described "acerbic wit and sour disposition" who is on sabbatical from his position as chairman of the UCLA English department and so has a lot of time on his hands.He also can be seen as a stubborn taskmaster who questions Akeelah's ability and commitment, but in time he develops a respect for his pupil and helps her prove her talent as she climbs the ladder to the National Spelling Bee.

When you are watching this movie, try to ask yourself ,what you can do in the face of little or no support, being disadvantaged economically, and having poor educational skills. As a teacher ,we must help our students to reach their full potential. We need to step to the plate and encourage, support, and participate in our children and student's lives. I think this was an endearing film that could be watched by the whole family.

After watching this movie there are 2 things invaded my mind. There are:

1) "Real teaching leaves a mark"

2) "50% of teachers quit within the first 3 years"





From this movie, we can see that teaching is not for everyone. But if you're  a bright, caring person, and can think fast on your own , you might be suitable for teaching. ... Do you have what it takes to be a teacher?
For me, the best moment of the film came at the very end when Mr. Lowery is trying to rap with his students. It was so real and heartwarming.

There are several hilarious moments throughout the movie but most importantly it is about truly dedicated teachers who, notwithstanding the obstacles, are sincerely determined to make a difference.
Anyhow, I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys finding comedy in the ridiculousness of life or basically anyone who enjoys good laugh ....
It is funny when here are times in which the teachers themselves come across as more insecure, petty and immature than even their own students.I don't like Mr Stroop. Mr. Stroop is a history teacher who is obsessed to be teacher of the year. He shameless begs one student to try to "know as much as me" . What you think about that  ?             

**I ended up feeling great affection for the people in the movie, and thought the film was very good.**

Funny teacher (^_^)..

What does it takes to be a great teacher? Does teachers who get to teach the brightest class in the school are great teachers? I don't think so..

The first thing come into my mind when I see the title of the movie is, who in the world is Ron Clark? What have he done or his contribution to this world? why did someone made a film about him? .. I get all the answers to my questions after the movie ends.

For me , this movie is just like the other teacher's movies that we have watched in the class. This movie is about teachers making a difference in student's lives . Isn't that what teachers supposed to do? To help and guide students so that they can get the education and become a better person? I think that is what great teachers do. They will do everything in their power to their students to success. Inn the Ron Clark story, he had to battle against the system at times to do what he felt would help his students . The steps he takes, the approaches he makes, the energy he extends and the devotion he shows manage to  produce a wonderful outcome.  He reaches the student's  families, in order to help them.  The most important thing is he gives them more than an education and a desire to keep on learning; he gives each one the knowledge that they do matter, and that when they put their hearts and minds to it, they can achieve anything.

In all, this movie is full of redeeming, positive messages and values. It is recommended to all the teacher in all over the world.

**My favourite moment in the movie  is when Mr. Clark had an argument with the principle. He said this:

Ron Ckark:  The problem isn't the kids. It's not even what they can achieve. The problem is what you expect  them to achieve. You are setting the bar here. Why? Set it up here! They can make it.
